media makes the web go round…

Of course there are purists who will say the internet is about Information, and that images, videos and such are… well eeerm, Clutter! YES! exactly and that´s why we need these Plug-Ins:
Because of the Relative complexity of these Plugs (I will be calling plug-ins/Plug-Ins/plug ins etc. etc. PLUGS from now on) I will be handling them in detail in future posts and for now I am assuming that you managed to get them installed and running…
The Plugs listed here are MY current favorites, there are of course hundreds of different Plugs out there and if anyone wants to recommend alternatives then please do so. I will be happy to test them and add them to this project.
- WP YouTube: Full access and control of your “Tube” stuff incl profile management and extended CSS/Styling options
- Install and Activate: Enter profile information and get busy embedding all sorts of rubbish that you find or publish on YouTube into your”BlogTube”: that´s all there is to it apparently…. If I run into problems they will be here.
And now the “Core” Media Plug(IN) Suite:
The Author behind NextGEN Gallery: Alex Rabe does his best (which is pretty good !) at the NGG Forums to help users with specific problems and questions related to NGG as i will be calling it from now on.
- Download NextGen Gallery
- NextGEN Gallery is the base Plug you will need and functions alone and without the following Add-Ons.
- Upload to your “Blogplugs” Activate: Configure or just start adding stuff to the galleries and creating cool slideshows.
- A common problem is NGG + PHP4 -> PHP5 which you can read about in this post here…
Once NGG is up and running you can add to and enhance your blogsgallery further with Plug-Ons to NGG
- NextGEN Image Flow seems to be experiencing difficulty with me at the moment: more when I get it working…
- NextGEN Gallery Add-Ons: Minimal but useful tweaks to NGG. Upload: Activate: Use…
- NextGEN Smooth Gallery: Adds a very nice image viewer – good for presenting products or photo series type stuff: Upload: Activate: Use (Dashboard-Settings) with a PostTag Generator/Preview. Works out of the box for me.
- NextGEN FlashViewer: uses the Airtight Interactive Flash Viewers so you will need to read some Read Me´s – Out of the box the plug has only 1 effect but you can get the others – kind of – for free via the PlugOns Homepage: Upload: Activate: Read ReadMeFiles: Repeat until you get all the effects working. Opera didn´t get on with these at all. In both the Admin and Frontend there were problems with how Opera handles javascript (…more about this here). FF3 and Flock have no problems, and with the “Gears” backend everything is just Turbo… Be careful though some of the Flash Effects use some Hefty Processing fom GPU and CPU that could take some users machines up to and beyond their capabilities…
So now we have the basis on which our blog will be built. we will use a screenie of clutterlovers to snapshot our progress…
- “Gallery”
- “Singlepic” set size
- “Tiltviewer” – try right click and Go Fullscreen…
The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed..
Just noticed I need to change the Blog Header text: Dashboard: Settings:
- Next Up Theme Choices
