get philosophical…
filed in whaddeva on Aug.21, 2008
It has been a while but all of the sudden I got a philosophical urge to eeerm well get philosophical… Due to the intensive nature of building my blog network and the mundane daily grind of design and programming I sometimes tend to forget where my influences and ethical roots lie. I guess this post was initiated by 3 little words I heard over at WeblogTools firstly in a comment thread and then the day after in a post by Mark Ghosh
“Be Kind, Educate”
This struck me as an almost TAO(istic) kind of philosophy and led me to do a bit of googling on the TAO TE CHING.
As an obsessive Number “23″ fetishist, it is only fitting that I quote one of my favourite verses from the TAO here.
Nature uses few words:
when the gale blows, it will not last long;
when it rains hard, it lasts but a little while;
What causes these to happen? Heaven and Earth.
Why do we humans go on endlessly about little
when nature does much in a little time?
If you open yourself to the Tao,
you and Tao become one.
If you open yourself to Virtue,
then you can become virtuous.
If you open yourself to loss,
then you will become lost.
If you open yourself to the Tao,
the Tao will eagerly welcome you.
If you open yourself to virtue,
virtue will become a part of you.
If you open yourself to loss,
the lost are glad to see you.
“When you do not trust people,
people will become untrustworthy.”

This is taken from a pretty good translation which you can see in it´s entirety HERE
more information on “The Tao Te Ching” can be found at HERE at WIKIPEDIA
This post has led me to open a new category here at clutterlovers which will hopefully lead me to post more often on this and other philosophical gems…
